Pet Salmonella Antigen Rapid Test
This product is used for rapid screening of Salmonella antigens in animal feces and can be used as an aid in the diagnosis of Salmonella infections in birds, cats and dogs.
Salmonella infects all farm animals and companion animals and is a major animal population health and safety threat. Animals infected with Salmonella can exhibit very severe clinical signs and the main clinical signs include two categories: systemic septicemia and enteritis. Its main transmission condition is fecal-oral transmission.
Symptoms of salmonella infection in birds generally include gastroenteritis (nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, etc., with watery or mucusy diarrhea), wound infection (wounds will show redness, swelling, heat, pain, etc.), central nervous system symptoms (fever, headache, malaise, muscle aches and pains, etc.), and sepsis symptoms.
Some animals simply carry Salmonella without showing any symptoms, and these carriers can, through their feces, spread Salmonella. Many dogs and cats are asymptomatic carriers of Salmonella due to their non-selective foraging habits, consuming both fresh and spoiled food. These asymptomatic carriers are often the cause of salmonella infection in their human owners. Acute diarrhea and sepsis may occur in kittens and puppies infected with Salmonella.
Clinical confirmation of Salmonella infection includes bacterial cultures when there are clinical signs and multiple positive bacterial culture results when there are no clinical signs. Fecal bacterial cultures lack sensitivity in asymptomatic Salmonella carriers because of the low levels of Salmonella in their feces. Immunochromatographic testing is of great interest for screening potential Salmonella carriers.
